Audio Garden's review

The first model in FiiO's modern range to combine dual AKM DACs, full wireless connectivity and simplified Android, the M9 paved the way for a whole generation of affordable audiophile portable music players.

Its detailed and warm sound reproduction is immediately appealing: the bass is full, the mids expressive and the highs silky, all supported by a surprisingly wide soundstage for this compact format.

The M9's connectivity remains exemplary: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LDAC / aptX HD, AirPlay, but also USB DAC function, for easy integration into a hi-fi system or for office use.

All this in a sleek, compact and solidly built design, with a smooth 3.2-inch touchscreen and an intuitive interface designed primarily for music.

⚠️ However, be aware: the system does not allow the direct installation of Android applications — only compatible streaming services (Tidal, Qobuz, Spotify, etc.) can be used via FiiO APKs.

Technical details & operation

The FiiO M9 relies on two AKM AK4490EN converters, supported by an Exynos 7270 processor, guaranteeing smooth playback up to PCM 384 kHz and DSD128.

It offers a dual headphone output (3.5 mm and 2.5 mm balanced), a dedicated line output, as well as a USB-C port for charging, transfer and DAC function.

The Bluetooth 4.2 module supports LDAC, aptX, aptX HD and SBC codecs, ensuring faithful and dynamic wireless playback.

The M9 also stands out for its careful construction, minimalist interface and 2350 mAh battery offering up to 10 hours of battery life.
