Launched in the late 2010s, the FiiO Q5 marked a true revolution in the world of portable DACs/amplifiers. The first model from the brand to combine a dual AK4490EN converter, a modular structure, and Bluetooth aptX wireless connectivity, it laid the foundations for the entire modern FiiO range.

Its sound reproduction, both detailed and musical, impresses with its naturalness and well-defined stereo image. The Q5 retains the warm character typical of AKM chips, while offering remarkable precision and transparency for its time. Thanks to its interchangeable amplifier module (originally the AM3A), it adapts to all types of listening: high-impedance headphones, high-sensitivity in-ear monitors, or desktop listening.

Robust, ergonomic, and still relevant today, the Q5 remains a model of balance and musicality. In its second life, it retains all its charm—an audiophile companion as endearing as it is efficient.

Technical details & operation

The FiiO Q5 adopts a dual AKM AK4490EN architecture, capable of decoding PCM streams up to 384 kHz and native DSD256.

Its amplification stage is modular: originally supplied with the AM3A module (double output 3.5 mm / 2.5 mm balanced amplifier), it can be replaced by other models in the series (AM3B, AM3D THX, etc.) to adjust the power or the sound signature.

The Q5 offers comprehensive connectivity: USB (PC or mobile DAC), optical, coaxial, and analog line. Its integrated Bluetooth module (aptX) allows for wireless use while maintaining faithful sound reproduction.

Its internal battery offers approximately 10 hours of battery life, and its brushed aluminum chassis, equipped with a precise volume potentiometer, makes it both an aesthetically pleasing and durable device.
