Audio Garden's review

Designed as a "mini desktop amp" that can slip into a jeans pocket, the FiiO KA17 impresses with its power and versatility. The result? Powerful bass, natural yet defined mids, and crisp, sibilance-free highs.

The combination of the dual ESS ES9069Q DACs and THX AAA 78+ hybrid amplification ensures a very clean sound reproduction, with a wide soundstage and excellent instrument separation. The KA17 offers surprisingly high power, more than enough to drive most modern hi-fi headphones, while maintaining extremely low noise levels with even the most sensitive in-ear monitors.

Finally, there's the famous Desktop mode, directly inherited from the M17 and Q15. Activated via a second USB-C port dedicated to power, it multiplies the performance of the KA17 and allows it to reach the power reserve of a small desktop amplifier - in a tiny format.

Technical details & operation

Equipped with a dual ESS ES9069Q DAC, the FiiO KA17 supports PCM streams up to 32 bits / 768 kHz and DSD512 files. Its amplification stage, based on THX AAA 78+ modules, guarantees extremely low distortion, excellent bass response and balanced, uncolored sound reproduction.

Its integrated screen provides essential information: level, audio format, digital filter, and power supply mode. The FiiO Control app allows you to adjust filters, equalization, power supply modes, and optimize the device according to the source used.

Note that the FiiO KA17 has two headphone outputs:

3.5 mm asymmetric (dedicated to single-ended, classic headphones and in-ear monitors)
4.4 mm symmetrical (dedicated to balanced headphones and in-ear monitors)

The icing on the cake is that the KA17 will be compatible with Android and iOS smartphones (via the supplied adapter) and Windows and macOS computers, as well as audiophile portable players with a USB Host function.
